XLR8 KIDS CAMP

ABOUT XLR8 KIDS CAMP

What is XLR8?

XLR8 is a strength and conditioning program for kids in grades 1-8.  The idea and motivation for XLR8 is to create fun exercise different from the conventional P.E. class.  Three themes we talk about daily with athletes at XLR8 class are: Durable, Confident, and Competent.  The XLR8 strength and conditioning program not only improves physical fitness but the intangible make up of each athlete!

Is XLR8 CrossFit?

XLR8 is rooted in CrossFit methodology as its base. XLR8 can certainly help a developing child to be better at competitive CrossFit but the main focus of XLR8 is to help a young athlete become better at team sports and not competitive CrossFit.  XLR8 is well rounded strength and conditioning for kids.

XLR8 Outcomes

XLR8 focuses on the complete athlete- Each day is a different workout focusing on three phases: Strength, Endurance, and Speed/Agility.  Athletes participating in XLR8 learn how to properly move free weights with great form while under the watch of professional coaches that have a critical eye for positioning.  Athletes in XLR8 learn different agility and ballistic exercises to become more explosive athletes.  Athletes in XLR8 learn how to work with endurance and gain a new capacity to compete for longer time durations.

XLR8 COACHES

Caitlin Hendler

“Growing up, I played many sports, but committed the majority of my time to soccer. I eventually played club soccer at Texas A&M while I received my B.S. in Allied Health and M.S. in Clinical Exercise Physiology.  Throughout the years I have coached a variety of athletes, specifically for soccer and general sports performance. I have a passion for serving others and their health, thus leading me to my current role as Exercise Physiologist in Cardiac Rehab at Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth. I enjoy staying active through running and spending time with my family and friends.”

DeAnna Slade

“I’ve always enjoyed playing sports. Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball were some of my favorites. I played volleyball in college. I have a degree in Elementary Education and have coached at the high school and middle school level. I am currently a PE teacher. CrossFit is my hobby and I enjoy working out with my husband and kiddos. My favorite CrossFit workout is anything with heavy cardio and pull-ups.”

Josh Christian

“Summer of 2017 I started XLR8 in a small facility with limited equipment on a mission to help young athletes improve their health, and strength & conditioning.  After great growth and improvement in the summer of 2018, the XLR8 program needed a new facility and resources for 2019.  CrossFit Westwood is the perfect new home for the XLR8 program.  I have been coaching kids and adults strength & conditioning and CrossFit for 7 years and I began competing in CrossFit in December of 2013 after completing my collegiate football career.  My competitive CrossFit career closed in May of 2018 after competing at the CrossFit South Regionals team competition.  I now serve middle school athletes full time as an Athletic Director, P.E. coach, football, and track coach at a school in Fort Worth and have a real passion for positively influencing young athletes.  I would love the opportunity to have your child join us in the most well rounded kids strength & conditioning program in Fort Worth!”
